The CT golf team was able to push their way to state and play at Common Grounds Golf Course on October 8th. They were able to put up a great 9 holes to push for State Runner up. Break out players like Dalton Sisneros and Chris O’Donnell were able to keep a three under and two under par performance respectively. Anthony Chen and Brayden Forte were also able to keep up good games with Forte finishing one under par and Chen putting up two over par. Overall the Cougars were able to keep a close game and compete hard against the other schools.
Dalton Sisneros is a Junior at CT and has played an essential part of the team. Making the state competitive rotation he was able to keep 3 under par at the Common Grounds golf course where state was held. To him, Sisneros said the state environment “…felt very good and there was a lot of people there…about 150 people will there on the last hole just watching…and it was fun to challenge myself to stay calm during all that.” During the season he also played amazingly and he has progressed to play better and better throughout the season. Sisneros will be playing next season and when asked about their momentum going into next season he said “We feel good as were only losing one player going into next years season and gaining a lot of good Freshman…especially knowing that we’ll be working hard over the offseason and I think we can come back better next year.”
Brayden Forte is a competitive Junior here at CT. His competitiveness was able to help him finish one under par at state and secure himself an offer from Xavier University. Even though the State Golf team were only state runner ups, Forte is very confident in their chances next year. “Going back to back state runner up felt great when we won last season as we had never done that as a program before but this year it was kind of disappointing because we really wanted to go all the way but it was still great.” said Forte. Forte really shows how passionate the team is in winning and getting better. He also expressed to us his dreams “I want to play professional golf and I just committed to college and I want to be one of the best college players and I also really want to win state as a team so that really motivates me to keep playing,” said Forte.
Christopher O’Donnell was a Senior and this was his last season with the team. He has been a standout performer making a two under par performance at state. O’Donnell was also able to make himself known as a leader, as younger players such as Anthony Chen, are making their way up to competitive rotation. O’Donnell said that the state environment was “Competitive…” He also said that coming up second was “…disappointing because we wanted to win it all this year, especially to a team we beat in regionals last year.” As for the team dynamic, O’Donnell can’t help but feel like the team has become like a family for him, “They always have my back and support me so I try to do the same for my teammates,” said O’Donnell.
Anthony Chen worked his way onto the state competitive rotation being only a sophomore. Chen was a great player throughout the season and was able to keep down to a two over par performance at state. He seeks to be a leader of the younger players through the older players mentorship. Anthony is excited for his upcoming season and hopes to continue moving powerfully Chen is confident in the teams ability to win state next year. Chen’s motivation for playing golf stems from his want to play at a higher level “I want to play golf in college and its something I really like to do,” said Chen. Being a sophomore on competitive rotation he said “I feel like it’s nice because I’m representing the school and being a leader for our younger kids and showing them they can do it even if they are a freshman or sophomore.”
