“I’ve been swimming for 12 years through summer league, club, and high school. I don’t regret a single moment of it and I’ve loved every step of the way,” senior Jacob Mueller said.
One of the three boy’s swim team captains this year, Mueller, is a jack of all trades. “I swim anywhere from butterfly, backstroke, or freestyle. I would say the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, and 200m butterfly are my bread and butter. I’ve always stuck with these events and I’m continuing to improve and get better every day,” Mueller said. He earned his captain position after three dedicated seasons on the team with one more lined up before he graduates.
The genuine love and passion Mueller holds for his sport is what pushes him to persevere. “I love the competitions and the independence of the sport…I love the community of swimming and the support around me. I’ve built so many great connections with people around Colorado and again I love having that sense of a second family,” Mueller said. His appreciation for swimming radiates through his work ethic and his ability to create a positive and supportive environment for his team.
The swimmer is hoping to make big strides this year and leave a mark on the team’s legacy. “My biggest goal is to make finals in state for the 100m backstroke, and the 100m butterfly, as well as getting another All-American time in the 4 x 100m relays to solidify CT swim as a big program and do it for more than just myself,” Mueller said.
Mueller holds best finishes at the state level in the 100m backstroke with a time of 00:56.28, and the 100m butterfly with a time of 00:55.33. With his courage and determination, nothing is standing in the way of Mueller and his dreams.
