Mrs. Sarah Keiffer is a theater and technical theater teacher at our school. While being a theater teacher can be a very chaotic job, with all the plays, and teaching what improvisation is all about. She also helps to direct the school’s plays, helping to direct them, pick out the roles, and make sure we have amazing plays to watch and experience.
The other side of the coin is the technical theater class. Certifying students to use power tools, showing them how to build sets, make costumes, and props.
But throughout it all, we see her caring side when she gives us her take on what teaching means to her. She says, “Being a safe spot for students to come relax and have fun is the most important thing I can do”.
This mentality has made her a favorite among her students. When asked if there was someone she takes her teaching approach from, she tells us about how her 4th-5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Schindel, helped her to understand that “students are humans who have emotions, who are tired and have tons of other classes,” Keiffer said.
This highlights how she can interpret the different scenarios of one’s school life, and helps to take care of them appropriately based on what each of their days has been like; showing how much she cares for each and every one of her students is simply a key part of who Mrs. Kieffer is! If it weren’t for that, we would have a very different teacher. Just make sure not to bring food or drinks into the theater.
