Mind of a Freshman
March 25, 2019
Freshmeat, children, or babies are some of the nicknames you hear about freshmen throughout high school. Throughout movies and other media, freshmen are always stereotyped as weak and little, while the upperclassmen dominate the school.
“I feel like everyone hates freshmen,” Caden Cole (9) said, “In my opinion, I think that upperclassmen are really rude to freshmen, and for no reason really.”
However, high school isn’t always like the movies. Most freshmen don’t experience the brutality that some upperclassmen can provide.
“I don’t feel threatened by the upperclassmen, they really haven’t done anything that would make me think that,” Jordan Rudolph (9) said.
To most freshman, the upperclassmen are deemed cool and many students idolize them.
“I look up to the upperclassmen, they are really inspiring, “ Cole said, “I especially look up to my sister.¨
To others, upperclassmen are just another piece of the high school puzzle.
“I don’t really look up to upperclassmen, ¨ Delaney Senkus (9) said, ¨ There’s not much to look up to.”
On top of dealing with the upperclassmen, freshmen have to adjust from the ways of middle school. They have to deal with schedule changes, more homework, and bigger responsibilities.
“At first it was hard adjusting from middle school to high school, and it took me a while to get used to it,” Cole said.
While middle school may seem easy to high schoolers, most students would choose to not return to it.
“I don’t miss middle school, since high school has been better than I imagined,” Cole said.
Even with all of the stress of high school, it is one of the highlights of someone’s life. “High school has been really fun and I can’t wait to make more memories,” Rudolph said, “It has been stressful and there are times that I want to quit, but I remind myself of the good times, and I know I can get past it.”
