At this point in the off season many other teams may be resting but not CT baseball. As the winter weather continues to push on CT baseball is getting their reps in and preparing for the spring season. The whole team meets up right after school on Tuesdays and they have early morning Saturday practices to help get the team warmed up. Head Coach Jon DiGiorgio states that these workouts are important because “…they help us prepare for the season and start off running instead of jogging.” These workouts also allow the coaching staff here to evaluate players and get a good sense of where the team is heading into the spring season. Majority of time spent at these workouts is ensuring coaches are helping players home in on problems they may have and improve their swing or pitching with beneficial feedback.
With a large baseball program, the players are also able to connect at winter workouts. Sophomore player Jack Daily stated that his favorite part about winter workouts was, “That we get a chance to hang out with our teammates and get the reps to see who is capable of making the team or not.” Each player is placed in a group that they are able to rotate hitting drills with. These groups allow players to communicate and exchange feedback with each other when the coaches aren’t able to talk to each person individually. Another sophomore player Jaxon Trail said that “I really like how the coaches are with you and contribute to being able to help you make adjustments.” After drills coaches will give feedback to players on what they saw during those drills to help them work on their technique.
