Jessica Perez, Team Leader
Jessica Perez is a Senior and a Team Leader for Trail Media. Perez has been involved with journalism for 4 years and is in her third year on staff. She has grown a passion for being in front and behind the camera, interacting with others and just bringing a smile to faces. Behind the scenes, Perez was born and raised in Colorado. Perez has her loving parents who have supported her throughout the years and two adorable dogs. She has grown up to love music such as listening to Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Karol G, etc. Traveling every year to a different destination is mandatory for Perez. She loves to travel to Florida, Hawaii, and her second home, Colombia. Perez likes to hang out with new people, especially her best friends. As Perez continues to excel in her educational journey, she tells stories to unite the community.
Edward Tay, Staff Reporter
Edward Tay (pictured on the right) is a junior at Cherokee Trail High School and a staff member at CT Trail Media. He joined CT Trail Media to gain experience and elevate his knowledge of creating videos, creating exciting stories, and how to be more entertaining.
Edward has a YouTube channel and created videos since he was 10. His knowledge of video editing and understanding of social media led him to have over 6.8 thousand subscribers and gain over 1.5 million views in all of his YouTube videos combined.
As a freshman, one video he created from Video Production class was one of two videos selected to be broadcasted on CTTV. In FBLA, he qualified for state in the Digital Video Production category.
Besides video editing, he also enjoys chess and tennis. He is the current President of Chess Club at CT. He also likes to compete in chess tournaments. Notable achievements include getting 7th at the 2023 Scholastic State Championships, K-12 division, 4th at the Summit School of Chess #5, Open division, and participated in the Denver Open, U1800 division. He also volunteers at the Chess Club at Tallyn's Reach Library. This year is his 3rd year of tennis and his 1st year of Varsity tennis.
He also focuses a lot on his academics. This year, he has 5 AP courses. His hard work in school led to him receiving the AP Scholar Award once he finished his sophomore year.
Yabe Beneberu, Editor
Yabetse Beneberu is a Senior at Cherokee Trail. With three years of experience on staff, and leading as the Video Production Editor during the 2023-2024 school year. Yabetse’s skills are predominantly in the Adobe Production Suite, from Premiere Pro to After Effects. Yabetse's main goals are to assist in producing the monthly show and help the staff with editing technicalities. When Yabetse is not involved in the journalism world at CT, he is working on projects for TSA (Technology student alliance), playing chess at Chess Club, or studying for IB (international baccalaureate) exams. All in all Yabetse Beneberu is ready to make this year the best possible year with the Digital Media staff, in creating informative and well produced content.
Peyton Michlig, Sports Executive Producer
Peyton Michlig, the Executive Sports Advisor for Digital Media. This is his second year on staff as he goes into his Junior year. His favorite part about being in Digital Media is creating sports stories. Most likely you will see Peyton at every sporting event throughout the year. Becoming a filmmaker is a passion he would like to pursue in the future. Outside of school, Peyton enjoys playing baseball at CT. He is just like any other student athlete who works to perfect his craft everyday.
Aubrey Nicholls, Managing Editor
Aubrey Nicholls is a senior within Trail Media, she is the Managing Editor for the publication for the second year and has been on staff for three years.
Nicholls joined Trail Media as a way to tell people’s stories and allow those who don’t feel like they have a voice to be heard. Nicholls plans to pursue journalism in college and continue telling people’s stories.
Outside of Trail Media, Nicholls is on the varsity cheerleading team for the school and works as a hostess at Parkway. Nicholls loves to read, write original stories, listen to music, and spend time with her family and friends.
