“When you see a good move, look for a better one” -Emanuel Lasker. The bishops are in place, the rooks are ready, fifteen seconds remain, he thinks, bam! Queen to A5, checkmate.

“I like studying with friends”, said Yabe when asked if he finds school difficult. Yabe is very close with his friends and family, when asked what drives his passion, Yabe responded with, “I want to make my parents proud”. His family is very important to him because they give and do so much for him.

When asked if he likes school his answer was, “I like learning”. Yabe finds true value in school when topics are challenging and interesting, this translates to his hobbies as he is curious and dabbles in a lot of different activities.

One can usually find Yabe playing chess with his friends, or playing video games at home. Yabe is great at managing time as when asked how he finds the time to play video games his response was, “I compromise, when I know if there is a test coming up I give my one-hundred-percent  on it and leave things like games aside ”.

Yabe’s motivation doesn’t just end on the chess board nor the screen, but beyond and into the newsroom here at Cherokee trails digital media program. With two years on staff and a lifetime of creativity, Yabe’s skills are an important part of the journalism ecosystem and is eager to contribute to CT’s publication.

Just like a game of chess, Yabe keeps on looking for a better move, and we’re excited to see how he grows as a person and how he will flourish in the CT community.
