On January 30th, during 4th period (1:50), students across grades walked out of class to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Together they walked, shouted, and raised their hands against the cruelty and violence they see in today’s political climate.
“Seeing the CT community come together for something greater was incredible. It was empowering, as an immigrant and as a student. The protest made me proud to be a CT student,” Alessia Desiderio Rodriguez, senior, said.
Students from all different backgrounds gather right outside the school to raise their voices to the passing cars, nearby businesses, and local neighborhoods.From paper to cardboard, students made signs in many colors, with different slogans and materials, to convey their message to the community.As students began marching beyond the school, administrators stopped them to communicate that once they’re off school grounds, school security guards and staff won’t be able to help them.After communicating with school staff, students began marching to the nearby Southlands Outdoor Shopping Mall to continue protesting beyond school grounds.Students walk along the street, screaming and shouting as they march towards Southlands Mall.Various slogans depicted: “No one is illegal on stolen land,” “Hot people melt ICE,” and “Liberty, Justice, for all.”Hordes of students wait for the light and shout out their opinions to the cars turning, showcasing the power in numbers.
