As the 2025-2026 school year nears the end, the idea of life after high school is beginning to feel more real than ever. Whether your path is college or not, it’s a big change with new responsibilities and so, so many questions. Luckily, CT alumni Nadia Fairbanks and Sara McClurr have advice to guide seniors in this crazy time.
”When choosing a school, I would definitely say pick the one that you’re most drawn to,” says Fairbanks, who graduated in 2024 and now attends Colorado Mesa University for a veterinary technician program. Fairbanks puts emphasis on finding a school that fits you and what you want in life, not just academics. She also says it’s important to research your options, not just go with the first one you’re accepted to. “Look into the school deeply, especially your program. Make sure this is a good fit for you and that you won’t get there and feel stuck,” says Fairbanks.
College isn’t the only thing to be thinking about senior year, though. Regardless of your plans after high school, there are a few important things to consider for senior year. “Really put in the work,” says McClurr. “Just because it’s senior year, you can’t just slack off.” McClurr also graduated in 2024 and now participates in an online veterinary program. McClurr explains that even if college isn’t for you, it is still important to try during senior year and get good grades. But academics aren’t the only thing McClurr thinks is important. “On the other hand, I think it’s very important to enjoy the time that you have where you have a little less responsibility. You have time with friends, which I think is really important,” says McClurr.
Whatever your life after high school looks like, the transition can be stressful. Both alumni stress the importance of taking time for yourself and maintaining your school life. Senioritis is very easy to fall into, but make sure to keep going strong through the home stretch. Good luck, seniors!
