After holding an incredible season, our CT Varsity Dance Team’s season has come to an end.
Beginning the season on November 8th at Douglas County High School, the Cougars competed in the Dance Team Union competition, founded in 2016 to offer a fresh perspective on competitive dance for high school teams. The dancers competed in two of their three routines, Poms and Game Day. In their pom routine, they scored 84.03 out of 100, placing them in seventh. Their second competing routine was Game Day, where they scored a 71.63 out of 80, placing them in fourth. While these may not have been the scores the dancers were looking for, they still have a full season ahead of them, striving for some wins.
Competition two took place at Smoky Hill High School on November 11th, hosted by the Colorado-based Centennial Dance League. This competition consists of the Cenntenial League schools, Cherokee Trail, Smoky Hill, Eaglecrest, Cherry Creek, and more. During this competition, the Cougars only competed in one of their routines, jazz. Giving them their highest score of the year, they scored an 86.67 out of 100, placing them in first! With this incredible score, they were named grand champions, meaning they had the highest score of the entire competition.
Following such a strong finish to the last competition, the dancers headed into their next competition on November 15th, eager for more wins. This competition was hosted by the Universal Dance Association Mile High at the Colorado Convention Center. This was the first competition of the season, competing in all three categories, but it couldn’t have gone better. In the Jazz routine, the dancers scored 86.1 out of 100, placing them first in the small D1 jazz category. As for their Poms routine, the Cougars scored an 88.275 out of 100, placing them in first. This is the highest score for the dancers in their pom routine and overall throughout the season. In their third and final category, they completed their Game Day routine, scoring a 76.625 out of 80, an incredible score, placing them in first for this category as well. With these three first places, our dancers earned their first clean sweep at UDA Mile High in program history!
For their fourth competition of the year, the CT Dance Team headed to the Denver Coliseum on November 22nd for the Colorado Spirit Coaches Association Road to State competition, which was crucial for gaining valuable feedback just before they head to states. During this competition, they competed in all three categories once again. In the Jazz category, they achieved a score of 93.7 (out of 100), an incredible achievement that also earned them the highest score of the entire competition! In the Poms category, the dancers scored 93.5 (out of 100), placing them in first; however, they received a 10-point deduction, bringing their score to 83.5 (out of 100) and moving them down to seventh place. For the Cougars’ Game Day routine, they received a score of 78.125 (out of 80), placing them second in the Game Day category.
The final performance of the season was states for our dancers. They only performed in one category during this competition, which was jazz, scoring a 94.125 (out of 100), which was the highest score of the entire competition, also placing them in first for the small jazz category, winning states.
We’re so proud of what our dancers accomplished this year, and we cannot wait to see what is in store for them next year!
